My favourite songs + bands. June 22nd, 2010.

So, these would be my favourite songs for today. And today only, as my favorite songs change daily. *chuckle*

So, as I fell asleep yesterday while listening to this wonderful song, let it be the first one on my list.
Sigur Ros - Hoppipolla
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmXMA34CeoQ)
I first discovered Sigur Ros back in 2008. Back then, I was in Finland, staying in this little village Orimattila for one month. I think that I was packing my bag, as I was to go home the next day and I had finally found a radio station that suited me just fine. I had spent several hours trying to find a station whose playlist didn`t fully consist of Finnish songs. The music was good, of course, but I couldn`t understand a single word as I don`t speak finnish. I only remember two words in Finnish now - mansikka, which means strawberry and maito, which means milk. So, now, while I was trying to collect all my stuff, which I had laid all over my room, the small room was filled with the sounds of Muse, Radiohead, Franz Ferdinand, and several others band music. Then Sigur Ros started playing - as it is an icelandic band, the song lyrics are also in icelandic, and i didn`t know what the song was about, but I found it so utterly beautiful, that I knew at that instant, that I need to get that song, so it wouldn`t only play in my memories. You can`t imagine, how happy I was when I remembered the name of the band - Sigur Ros. As soon as I returned back home, I googled them and listened to some more of their songs. Then I found out that my friend had their album "Takk" and she was so kind to lend it to me. And that`s how it all started. Two years later it`s still one of my favorite bands of all time and I think that it will remain this way for a long, long time.

Muse
First song I`ve ever heard from Muse, was Starlight. I saw it`s video on this French music channel, which I don`t have anymore ( >_< I liked that channel.) The first time I saw the beginning of "Starlight" I changed channels, as the video reminded me of some pop song`s beginning, and I`m not very fond of pop. But the next day, when the I saw, that they are yet again showing the video, I was simply too lazy to look for the remote and change the channels. So I watched it and fell in love with Muse. I had already heard some of their songs before, I just didn`t know that it was Muse. And then n 2007. I saw them live in Riga - it still remains the best gig I`ve attended. I remember the feeling of being squished in the gig between thousands of people and jumping and screaming so hard, that I couldn`t speak for the next 3 days and walk for the next two. And I can proudly say that I am a Muse fan. And my favorite song at least, at the moment, would be "Time is running out"

I think that Regina Spektor is one of the most underrated artists EVER.

I didn`t even know about her until very recently. I only found out about her about 4 months ago, when I read some blog and she was mentioned there and there was also one of her videos. I think that it was called "Fidelity", although I`m not sure. And so I started listening to her songs, which I truly do find simply brilliant. At the moment one of the top 25 most played songs on my iPod is Regina Spektor`s "Samson", which definitely could be one of my favorite songs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p62rfWxs6a8&feature=channel) or "Us" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fczPlmz-Vug&feature=channel), which I first heard on "(500) days of Summer". I loved the movie too, by the way. ^

currant of the day: didn`t I already mention? ;)

  1. Regina is my very favorite. I hope you get to see her live sometime in your life, because she's seriously even BETTER live. Please listen to "The Man of a Thousand Faces", "The Call", and "Poor Little Rich Boy"!
